Understanding payment plans

A payment plan is a method of payment that allows clients to pay for their purchases in installments over a period of time. Scheduled payments for payment plans are automatically charged to the default payment method associated with the client profile. If the payment fails to be processed, the payment will be billed to the client’s account balance.

What can I do with payment plans?

  • Staff members can create and apply a payment plan during checkout for any item a client purchases from the store.

  • Staff members can also create, apply, and manage payment plans for events. These payment plans can be sold separately or as part of a package when making a sale through the store. When you create an event payment plan, it’s automatically available to be applied to all existing events.

  • Multiple payment plans can also be created for an event, and clients can select a plan as a method of payment when purchasing an event through the Client Web App. For example, instead of paying $250 up front for an event, a client can choose a payment plan of 10 payments of $25, paid every 15 days.

Key tips

  • Packages

    • If an event with an available payment plan is sold as part of a package, the payment plan won’t be visible to clients when they purchase the package through the Client Web App. Instead, staff members will need to apply the payment plan to the package at checkout. For more information, see Applying a payment plan at checkout.

  • Purchase Option billing

    • If a Purchase Option was purchased with a payment plan, the client will be billed according to the payment plan, even if the Purchase Option is canceled. The payment plan must be canceled to stop future payments. For more information, see To cancel a payment plan under Managing a payment plan.

  • Virtual terminal payments

    • If multiple virtual terminals are configured for a business and a client selects more than one to pay for their payment plan, the full amount of the event will be divided and shown under each payment method. However, the amount the client will actually pay based on the payment plan will be accurately displayed in the shopping cart.
