We are aware that Apple has reached out by email to a number of our customers who use the Achieve Client App for iOS. In this email, Apple informs them that there is an deadline (June 30, 2022) to update their apps to meet App Store Review guidelines. There are two sections of the guidelines that have been highlighted in the email:
In-App Purchases – Under Guideline 3.1.1 In-App Purchase, if your app offers paid online group services, you must use in-app purchases to collect those payments.
Data Collection and Storage – Under Guideline 5.1.1 Data Collection and Storage, if your app supports account creation, you must also offer account deletion within the app.
To help you better understand the impact of these guidelines on your business, we have provided explanations below.
In-App Purchases
What does this guideline mean?
According to Apple’s guidelines: “If you want to unlock features or functionality within your app, (by way of example: subscriptions, in-game currencies, game levels, access to premium content, or unlocking a full version), you must use in-app purchase”.
How is the Achieve Client App impacted by this guideline?
Apple’s guidelines state that you cannot sell on-demand services through your app unless you are using direct in-app purchases. The following WellnessLiving on-demand services may be subject to this guideline:
Live virtual appointments with more than two individuals using our Zoom integration
Live virtual classes and events using our Zoom integration
FitVID on Demand video hosting services
The guidelines do permit purchase methods other than in-app purchase to collect payments for real-time person-to-person services between two individuals, and for physical goods and services outside of the app. As a result, the following WellnessLiving services are not subject to this guideline:
Live virtual one-on-one appointments using our Zoom integration
Any Purchase Option for in-person services (any classes, appointments, or events held in person)
Any products
These services and products can continue to be sold through the Achieve Client App as normal.
How was this resolved?
For in-app purchases, there is no risk of breaching these regulations. WellnessLiving took action to address these guidelines in the February 2021 release of WellnessLiving.
We removed your ability to sell Purchase Options that include the words “Virtual”, “Video”, or “On Demand” through the Achieve Client App for iOS. To sell any Purchase Options for virtual services, advise your clients to use one of the following methods:
In-person purchase at the business’s physical location
Online purchase from the Client Portal, the WellnessLiving Explorer listing, or Presence custom websites.
Data Collection and Storage
What does this guideline mean?
Since the Achieve White Label Client App gives your clients the ability to create their own client profiles, it must also give them the option to delete these profiles.
How was this resolved?
In a previous release of WellnessLiving, we updated the Achieve White Label Client App. A Delete button has been added to the Settings page to give your clients the ability to delete their client profiles from the app itself. With this change, the Achieve Client App complies with all of Apple’s App Store review guidelines.
