This article describes all the general information settings available when creating and modifying a discount code.

Setting

Description

Discount code title

The name of the discount code. The name can be viewed by your clients, so it should be both descriptive and brief.

Description

A description of the promotion offered by the discount code.

Amount

The dollar or percentage amount taken off the total purchase at checkout when this discount code is used.

Discount code

Enter a custom discount code or click the Generate Random button to generate a random code.

Activation date

Select an activation date for the discount code.

Duration

Define when the discount code expires. Your choices are:

  • Never expires – The discount code won’t expire.

  • Must be used within – Specify the number of days, weeks, months, or years after which the discount code will expire.

  • Expires on Select Date – Specify an expiration date.

    • Ensure that the expiration date occurs after the activation date.

    • The discount code expires at 12:00 AM on the date that you set.

Utilization

Choose which products, services, and Purchase Options this discount code can be applied to:

  • Allow discount to all items (i.e., products, services, purchase options)

    • Set this option to ON to allow this discount code to be used when purchasing any item sold by your business.

    • Set this option to OFF to individually select the items to which the discount code will be applied.

  • Allow the discount code to be applied for gift cards

    • Set this option to ON to allow this discount code to be used when purchasing a gift card.

    • This option can only be selected if the Allow discount to all items (i.e., products, services, purchase options) option is set to OFF.

Included items

This option is only available if the Allow discount to all items (i.e., products, services, purchase options) option is set to OFF.

Use the dropdown menu to search for and select any number of items that the discount code can be applied to.

Membership Discount Rules

Define which payments this discount code will apply to:

  • Apply discount to auto-renewing payments

    • Set this option to ON to apply this discount each time the membership auto-renews

  • Apply discount to the first scheduled payment only

    • Set this option to ON to only apply this discount to the first payment of the item.

Redemption Rules

Define the redemption rules for this discount code:

  • Number of uses per client

    • Select the number of times a client can use this discount code.

    • This setting limits the discount code to a specific number of transactions, not items. For example, if set to three, clients can use the code for three purchases, applying it to all eligible items in their cart each time.

  • Allow clients to redeem this discount code online

    • Set this option to ON to allow clients to redeem this code online.

  • Allow only specific client types or groups to redeem this discount code

    • Set this option to ON to select the specific client types or client groups that may redeem this code.

    • If a client belongs to multiple client groups eligible for the same discount code, they can only use one per transaction.

    • If a client belongs to a client group that’s allowed to redeem a code, but a client type that isn’t, or vice versa, they can still use the code.
