Question
I’m experiencing long loading times when accessing WellnessLiving on my web browser, or can’t access WellnessLiving at all and have exhausted all options in Why is Wellnessliving taking so long to load? How can I improve loading times?
Answer
Though WellnessLiving is constantly working to improve how often our servers automatically clear cache to prevent cache-related issues from occurring, in this situation, we recommend setting new default Domain Name System (DNS) servers on your computer and, if possible, clearing the DNS cache. Below, is an explanation of what DNS is and how it works. See below the explanation for instructions on changing your DNS servers on Windows 10, Mac, and Chromebook.
Note: If you clear the DNS cache you should also record a video of the issue, including your attempt to resolve the issue by clearing your cache, and send the video to WellnessLiving Support so we can review the issue.
What is DNS?
What is DNS?
You can access information online by using domain names or internet protocol (IP) addresses. Domain names, such as wellnessliving.com, are used by people to access information on the internet. IP addresses, such as 192.168.1.1, are assigned to each device that is connected to the internet. IP addresses are used by computers to access information on the internet.
The DNS is an internet directory that pairs domain names with IP addresses. This allows you to access information online by using simple domain names instead of complex IP addresses.
Here is what happens with domain name servers when you try to access wellnessliving.com:
A request for the IP address is sent to a server (a large computer system) called a recursive resolver.
The recursive resolver searches through DNS servers to find out which IP address is paired with the domain name wellnessliving.com.
Based on this search, the request is sent to a root server that knows the information about the top-level domain (i.e., .com).
The request is then sent to a top-level domain name server, where information for the second-level domain (i.e., WellnessLiving) is found.
The request is then sent to the DNS that knows the domain’s IP address.
The IP address is sent to your computer and the website is loaded.
The DNS directory is distributed internationally, and each domain name can be paired with more than one IP address. With this distribution, you do not need to wait in line to visit a website. DNS directory information is also cached (saved) on your computer so a DNS server does not need to be repeatedly accessed each time you revisit a website. Additionally, your router and internet service provider (ISP) may also cache DNS information to improve the speed at which domain names are translated to IP addresses. It is sometimes possible for inefficiencies to occur with cached DNS information. In this case, flushing the DNS cache or changing the DNS settings may improve the speed at which websites can be accessed.
