Optimize your FitVID videos
Optimize your FitVID videos
Updated over a week ago

Before uploading videos to FitVID, you can optimize them with a video transcoder to make your video’s file size smaller, while maintaining the same quality. This helps videos stay within FitVID's file size limit and reduces data usage for viewers.

We recommend using HandBrake, an open-source video transcoder, to optimize your videos. You can download HandBrake for free here.

Once you’ve downloaded and installed HandBrake, follow the steps below to optimize your video files for FitVID. For more information about HandBrake, refer to HandBrake documentation.

Note: If you use Microsoft Windows, you’ll be prompted to download and install Microsoft .NET Runtime when installing HandBrake. This is normal and required for HandBrake to run properly.

Convert a video using HandBrake

To convert a video using HandBrake, follow these steps:

  1. Open the HandBrake software.

  2. In HandBrake, open the video you want to encode using one of the following methods:

    • In the Source Selection menu, click File, find and select the video file, then click Open.

    • Drag and drop the video file into the HandBrake window.

  3. In the Presets field, select Fast 1080p30.

  4. Adjust the encoding settings as follows:

    1. Under the Summary tab, in the Format settings, select the Web Optimized checkbox.

    2. Under the Dimensions tab, in the Size settings, ensure that the width is set to 1920 and the height is set to 1080.

  5. Change the video format to mp4 by including .mp4 at the end of the file name.

  6. In the Save As field, click Browse.

  7. Choose a location for your new video file, then click Save.

  8. In the ribbon, click Start Encode.
