3DS2 Authentication
Updated this week

What is 3DS2?

3DS2 (3D Secure 2) is an authentication protocol designed to enhance the security of online payments and reduce fraud. It is the next generation of the original 3D Secure (3DS) protocol introduced by major credit card networks like Visa (Verified by Visa) and Mastercard (Mastercard Identity Check).

3DS2 supports Strong Customer Authentication, which often includes two-factor authentication, requiring two out of three types of factors:

  • Something the customer knows (e.g., password or PIN)

  • Something the customer has (e.g., phone, token, or card)

  • Something the customer is (e.g., biometric data like fingerprint or facial recognition)

Note: WellnessLiving does NOT collect information entered as part of the 3DS2 authentication process.

3DS2 in Europe

3DS2 is required in Europe to comply with regulations like P2D2, which mandates Strong Customer Authentication for many types of online transactions.

3DS2 and WellnessLiving

WellnessLiving’s role is to ensure that when an issuing bank is requesting for 3DS2 authentication, the correct authentication process is displayed in the WellnessLiving Web App or Achieve App.
