Understanding the Workout of the Day

The Workout of the Day (WOD) is a key part of CrossFit®* fitness programming. It’s simply the workout that’s assign for a particular day. Many CrossFit® gyms display the WOD on a whiteboard or app, and members either complete it remotely on their own or in a class setting. With the FitBUILDER add-on, you can create tailored WODs for your clients.

Any fitness business can use the idea of a "daily workout challenge" to build community, keep clients consistent, and track their progress.

How to use the Workout of the Day

FitBUILDER helps you build custom WODs designed to meet the needs of each day by combining individual movements (like squats, deadlifts, or burpees) and series of movements referred to as circuits (jump squats, push-ups and kettlebell swings x 15 reps each).

These custom workouts are great for daily programming or special sessions, whether you're focusing on skill building or a high-intensity circuit for conditioning.

Example: A fitness coach could set up a workout with three rounds of 10 deadlifts, 15 kettlebell swings, and a 400-meter run. This type of workout combines different movements to boost training results, and it can be easily adjusted based on the day's goals or clients' fitness levels.

Who Should Use It: Perfect for personal trainers, bootcamp-style programs, and fitness studios that need flexible, varied programming. It’s also great for facilities offering specialized classes like HIIT, spin, yoga, Pilates, dance, or martial arts, where each class has its own unique movements.

Setting up a WOD with FitBUILDER is simple and helps motivate clients, build community, and improve performance, whether in-person or remotely.

  1. Add movements to your workout library

  2. Promote daily participation at your facility & remotely

  3. Encourage community and competition with WOD chats and the leaderboard.

WOD ideas beyond CrossFit®

The Workout of the Day concept isn’t just for CrossFit®—adapting it for other fitness styles helps keep workouts fresh, motivating, and tailored to the unique goals of your clients.

Yoga Studios

A "Pose of the Day" or "Flow of the Day" can challenge clients to master a specific pose or sequence. You could create benchmark workouts to track progress in sequences (like sun salutations), postures (like arm balances), or abilities (balance, flexibility, endurance).

Pilates Studios

A "Pilates Sequence of the Day" could focus on reformer exercises targeting specific muscle groups or skills (like control, breathing, or spinal flexibility). Benchmark workouts could track progress in movement variations, reps, or spring resistance.

Spin/Cycling Studios

A "Ride of the Day" could feature high-intensity intervals, sprints, or climbs aimed at building endurance and cardiovascular strength. Track metrics like total distance, speed, or heart rate to boost engagement.

Bodybuilding Gyms

A "Strength Circuit of the Day" could focus on pushing limits with heavier weights or higher reps for key muscle groups. Track personal bests to keep members engaged.

Dance and Martial Arts Studios

Reinforce new sequences or routines by providing an on-demand “Dance of the Day” that clients can access at the studio or from home, helping with skill development. Encourage clients to share their progress on social media to build community and brand awareness.

Incorporating a Workout of the Day into your business model is a great way to keep your clients engaged, build community, and track progress. Whether it’s CrossFit®, yoga, spin, or strength training, the WOD can be easily customized to fit any fitness setting.

With FitBUILDER, you can create flexible, dynamic workouts that keep things fresh and challenging, helping your clients stay consistent and motivated both in the gym and at home.
